I was in Europe before this but I was looking to move closer to my home country Thailand. I’m a High Energy Experiment physicist, and KEK is a leading research institute in the field, especially in Asia. So I decided that this is a good opportunity for me.

There are challenges, but my co-workers are supportive. Overall, I enjoy my time working here, though sometimes I feel like I can do more if the language barrier is not there. I’ve been trying to improve my Japanese because of that.

Even though my job title is physicist, my day-to-day job is mostly writing computer code for one of the hardware which will be used in an experiment. I like that. I like seeing things that I designed works as intended. That’s half of the great things about this job. The other half is, of course, the fact that we are doing this to push the frontiers of physics knowledge. Isn’t that cool?

I didn’t know before I arrived, but Tsukuba is just about the right “large town/small city” I like. There are almost everything I’d need, and Tokyo is just an hour trip away. On the other hand, Tsukuba-san is just a stone throw away if I want to escape the city for the weekend.

I usually do my long run or other extended exercise, and housework, on Saturday. I like running along Rin-Rin road toward Tsukuba-san. On Sunday, I usually just relax at home or go on a slow bicycle ride.
